In a manifesto against the fatalist and tech-optimistic narratives about the climate crisis, “A lake by the mõõn” invites us to pay deep attention to what sound has to show us about the miserable state of our planet. It presents us with a sound pallet 100% created from the sounds of endangered animals, offering a new opportunity to hear the sounds of pain and despair of living beings that have suffered the most from the Anthropocene. Producer and activist Caldense thus transports the voices of these animals from their collapsing ecosystems to a new sound habitat of organic electronic music.
