Estefania Velez Rodriguez is a recent graduate from Brooklyn College earning her Masters in Fine Arts in June 2017. She makes works in multiple mediums including painting, drawing, performance and video. All works link to questions of human behavioral structures that our changing societies place upon their citizens. The idea of national identity and of being "other" can be seen as a philosophical myth, although failing to fit into a normative structure can have true consequence. She questions and plays with aspects of her identity by using stereotypical objects, color, sounds and symbols mixed with humor to express awkwardness of feeling like an outlier. Painting, video, sound and drawing become mediums in which to talk about insecurities and perceived failures of categorizing humans and objects within our physical and symbolic world.
