Cryptonudes was born in 2018, created by machines instructed by Mari Nagem and Lina Lopes, in order to re-educate systems (and humans) to break bodily normativity. Exploring emerging economic systems, Cryptonudes legitimizes the diverse, hybrid, and transient body through the digital. In this first series, nudes from early 20th-century print media were used, where the white, female nude body is prevalent as an object of desire. Here, the non-smooth, undefined-shaped bodies, even if created by machines, are somehow, more human.
