Ver descrição

The video presents the implosion of a building that hosted the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Research (IBGE), located in the neighborhood of Mangueira, north of the city. I use the excerpt of the exact moment of implosion as a base to create a looping, synchronized to the sound of heartbeats. The building in question served as housing for hundreds of homeless families. The implosion took place on May 13, 2018, the day that marked the 130 years of abolition of slavery in Brazil. The date was chosen by the management of the then mayor Marcelo Crivella to be used as a media strategy, populist and quite questionable.
