A year later, during the pandemic the Amazon, the Pantanal and the Cerrado were devastated again by fire. These biomes are present in the state of Mato Grosso and the city of Cuiabá, where I have lived for 30 years, which is the heart and geodesic center of South America, was an island surrounded by fire on all sides. I witnessed the vegetation being criminally inflamed. An idea of extinction on fire, that silently announces the funeral of our diversity, resulting from this developmental modernity of which we are victims and executioners. The inflamed nature is a symptom of this sick environmental management that privileges agribusiness and mining in detriment of sustainability and socio-environmental justice, so necessary to Brazil and to the world.
