Processing program: randomly generated compositions sourced from 2000 Google reCAPTCHA images, 2016 (Coding assistance by Luke Meeken)Drawing from a file folder containing 2000 reCAPTCHA images that I manually downloaded from accounts.google.com/SignUp between May and July of 2016, rereCAPTCHA uses Processing to randomly assemble collages. One usually encountered these narrowly cropped, lo-res JPEGs, which were sourced from Google Street View, in the process of creating an online profile. This iteration of reCAPTCHA images has now all but vanished from the Internet. Though ostensibly mundane, they were nonetheless are operative images, serving as the most conspicuous element of an automated gatekeeping system designed to prevent bots from simulating human agents: “Prove you’re not a robot.” (Part of the Prove you're not a robot series: ericjuth.com/pynar)
