This video builds on on visual strategies from my friend Rosemary Kirton's Follow for More Soft Grunge, 2013, which consisted of "formal files and styles of performance being softened and corrupted." Visualizing the network hierarchy, commodification, and deputized gender at play in online fashion scenes such as pale blogs, Rosemary's video provided a framework to think about gendered visuality and oppressive reification in online porn viewer communities. In my video, I attempt to soften a found porn clip with a systematic glitch pattern, but this focalizes the audio and its role in the commodification of male eroticism, punctuated by moments where the image unfractures, becoming clearly visible. The falseness of the scene, the machinations of patriarchy, and the tyrrany of the visual work in para-erotic fashion to sensitize viewers to the labor of experiencing art-- specifically, the titular unwaged work of revulsion which structures online viewing networks both within porn and more generally
