“Ecco the Dolphin: C a t a c l y s m” is an ongoing project (a gif-roman, if you will) that tells the story of existential dolphins witnessing their world on the verge of ecological and systemic collapse. It is a fragmented narrative told through looping animated GIF vignettes created from the cult Sega Genesis game, Ecco: The Tides of Time. Each scene was created by glitching ROM images of the original game, recording the resulting gameplay, and meticulously editing the footage to create looping vignettes.
